Mr. PGJ Nampoothiri
After graduation in Civil Engineering, he joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1964 and was allotted to the Gujarat Cadre. During his thirty-four years of service, he had worked as Superintendent of Police in Junagadh, Godhra and Vadodara and as Commissioner of Police at Ahmedabad. He was on deputation to the Central Bureau of Investigation for fourteen years and served in various capacities. After retirement as Director General of Police, Gujarat in 1998, he took up the assignment as Special Rapporteur to the National Human Rights Commission in Gujarat and continued till March, 2007. He is a recipient of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. He has co-authored ‘Lest we Forget’ with Mr. Gagan Sethi based on their work during and after communal violence of Gujarat 2002.
